Tech Note #9: "Starting Views 3.x gives the error "Unable To Start Folio Server - Error Creating File %s" (percent s)."
CAUSE:
- Folio Views uses temporary files to load and run. Unable to Start Folio Server - Error Create File %s signifies that the location of a temporary directory has not been correctly set on the computer.
- The FEWIN386.DLL is missing from the Views program directory.
- Low memory.
SOLUTION:
- In the machine's AUTOEXEC.BAT file (located by default in the root directory) check for the statement:
SET TEMP=<valid path to a temporary directory>
If this statement is present, confirm that the directory exists and that the path listed is correct. If the statement does not exist, create it.
- Reinstall the Views application.
- Unload any unnecessary applications such as TSRs or drivers.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The SET TEMP variable should be listed prior to the reference to Windows in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
The computer must be closed and restarted after adding the Set Temp variable to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
Some network scripts may change the Temp variable set on the local machine. If applicable, confirm the network setting points to a valid directory.
Windows NT users should set the temp path variable under Control Panel | System | Environment.
